The history of the Dirt Devil brand dates back to 1905, when the P.A. Geier Company–one of the world’s oldest vacuum cleaner manufacturing companies–first started making Royal vacuums. The company introduced the industry’s first handheld vacuum, the Royal Prince, in 1937. The next big step in the company’s history, and in the history of vacuum cleaners, was in 1984, when the Dirt Devil hand vac was introduced to the world. This revolutionary product has become Royal’s signature product and the top-selling handheld corded vacuum cleaner in the U.S. Since its debut, more than 23 million Dirt Devil hand vacs have been sold. This success has opened the door for many new product introductions under the Dirt Devil brand name.
